TIMING:Timing is electronic based (not chip-timed) using a Summit System. Equipment and timing is provided by the Tsalteshi Trails Association. REGISTRTION:Online registration is provided at www.kenairivermarathon.org. Look for the link marked Online Registration. No transaction fees are charged to participants. Otherwise, mailed entries will be accepted through September 20 and must be mailed to: Kenai Convention and Visitors Bureau PACKET PICKUP / SPAGHETTI FEED:On Saturday, September 25th at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska (9711 Kenai Spur Highway) from 6:30 – 7:30pm. Participants will receive their race packet, be briefed on the course, and enjoy a spaghetti feed provided by the Kenai Little League (donations expected). If unable to attend, race packets may be picked up at the Kenai Visitors & Cultural Center one (1) hour prior to race time. COURSE (map in PDF):This is a fast, predominately flat course on pavement. The Marathon route has been certified by USATF (Certification AK08002FW). Course begins with a run through Old Town Kenai allowing runners to take in a short but delightful look at the mouth of the Kenai River and the Kenai Mountains. Once out of town, the course primarily follows the Unity Tail connecting Kenai and Soldotna, crossing the river twice. The course meanders through the residential area of Soldotna before connecting again with the Unity Trail along the Kenai Spur Hwy bringing runners back into Kenai for the finish at the Kenai Visitors & Cultural Center. COURSE MARKING:Course is typically marked using 8” paper dinner plates with arrows and traffic cones. AIDE STATIONS & SUPPORT:A total of 8 water stations supplied with water and cell phones for emergencies, if needed. Three of the stations double as relay exchange points and will have toilet facilities. Two water stations and one toilet facility will also be available for the half marathon event. Locations for the aide and relay stations are as follows: Mi. 2.3 (water station), Mi. 5.8 (water/toilet/relay station), Mi. 9.1 (water station), Mi. 12.4 (water/toilet/relay station), Mi. 16.7 (water station), Mi. 18.9 (water/toilet/relay station), Mi. 20.6 (water station), Mi. 24 (water station). The half marathon water station along with toilet facility will be at Mi. 5.8. Police escort is typically used at beginning of race in order to get through town. Flaggers are used as much as possible at busy intersections. Intersections are not typically closed and so runners will need to exercise caution. Volunteer cyclists are used throughout the course observing and assisting participants as needed. AGE GROUPS AND AWARDS:Participants will compete in the following Male and Female Age Groups: 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 & over. Top three participants in each category will receive a medal, except 16-19 age category (Finisher medals only). Finisher medals will be awarded to all participants completing their event. The relay event is an “open” event with medals going to the top three teams and finisher medals for teams completing race. Finisher medals will be awarded to all participants completing their event immediately upon crossing the finish lin. Top place finishers (1st, 2nd, 3rd) will be mailed to participants. Please note that participants under the age of 16 can only register for the 1/2 marathon. POST RACE CELEBRATION:Join us after the race for food (brats and beer). RACE RESULTS:Results will be posted on the website the day of race at www.kenairivermarathon.org.
